Song of Solomon 1:7-8 NKJV
(To Her Beloved)
7 Tell me, O you whom I love,
Where you feed your flock,
Where you make it rest at noon.
For why should I be as one who veils herself[g]
By the flocks of your companions?
THE Beloved
8 If you do not know, O fairest among women,
Follow in the footsteps of the flock,
And feed your little goats
Beside the shepherds’ tents.

“Shall set us in the way of his steps.” It is reported in the Bohemian History, that St. Wenceslaus, their king, one winter night going to his devotions, in a remote church, barefooted in the snow and sharpness of unequal and pointed ice, his servant Podavivus who waited upon his master's piety, and endeavoured to imitate his affections, began to faint through the violence of the snow and cold; till the king commanded him to follow him, and set his feet in the same footsteps, which his feet should mark for him: the servant did so, and either fancied a cure, or found one; for he followed his prince, helped forward with shame and zeal to his imitation, and by the forming footsteps for him in the snow. In the same manner does the blessed Jesus; for, since our way is troublesome, obscure, full of objection and danger, apt to be mistaken, and to affright our industry, he commands us to mark his footsteps, to tread where his feet have stood, and not only invites us forward by the argument of his example, but he hath trodden down much of the difficulty, and made the way easier and fit for our feet. For he knows our infirmities, and himself hath felt their experience in all things but in the neighbourhood of and therefore he hath proportioned a way and a path to our strength and capacities, and, like Jacob, hath marched softly and in evenness with the children and the cattle, to entertain us by the comforts of his company, and the influence of a perpetual guide and shall set us in the way of his steps; the business of John the Baptist being not only to prepare the way of Christ by his doctrine and baptism, but to guide the feet of his people into the way of peace; or to direct them to believe in Christ, and to be followers of him, the Lamb of God, whithersoever he went; who has left an example of grace and duty, that we should tread in his steps, Luk_1:79, the Targum renders it, "in the good way"; and such a way John taught men to walk in. (my note Jer 6: 16 Thus says the LORD: “ Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’)

Luke 1:79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

I am interested in hearing people's thoughts on this verse and on the word "believe". What does it mean to believe? It's easy to say I believe but even the demons believe. So what does it mean for us to really believe?

Matthew 24:51 Jesus uses the word "hypocrites". If you go over to Luke 12:46 the word "unbelievers" is used in place of hypocrites.

When unsaved people are saying the church is full of hypocrites they are actually saying the church is full of unbelievers.

This is the work of God that we believe in Him whom He sent.

Our good works come out of believing, it's not the works that make us believers.

In John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Jesus asked Martha if she believed she said yes.

John 11:38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”

Verse 39 and 40 - Did she believe in the first place? Did she have confidence or conviction that what Jesus said was truth? Do we?

Verse 42 Jesus performed this miracle that they who were there would believe.

So did they believe before the miracle? Did Martha believe. I believe Jesus groaned within Himself because of doubt and unbelief. That would mean, though they said they believed and thought they believed, they didn't have confidence or conviction.

David Wilkerson wrote about righteousness as follows:

Romans 4:3, 9 and Galatians 3:6.

Each of these verses refers to one thing Abraham did to attain true righteousness. He believed.

Romans 4:22

Righteousness is believing the promises of God, being fully persuaded that He will keep His word.

Unrighteousness is unbelief - staggering at His promises, doubting God will do what He promised and trying to do it ourselves.

Then he quotes John 6:29 This is the work of God that you believe in Him whom He sent.

If we are not believing the promises of God, and try to do things ourselves, we are not being clothed in His righteousness but our own filthy rags.

May we believe He is faithful to do as He has promised and walk by faith according to His word and have it accounted to us for righteousness.

The Hebrew word translated believe is from a root meaning "establish" or "confirm".

Belief is one of the most important ideas in all the bible, because a person must believe God in order to be saved from sin.

Whenever the Scriptures, whether the old or new testaments, state that a person "believed in the Lord, it signals that the person has made a decision to treat God's word as certain and has made a commitment to do what God wants.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name

The Greek word for believe literally means "to place one's trust in another". To believe in Jesus is to believe in His person and to trust in Him completely for salvation.

Many of Jesus' contemporaries believed in Jesus' miraculous power, but they would not believe in Jesus Himself (John 6:23-26).

Others wanted to believe in a political Messiah, but would not believe in the One who suffered for their sins (Mark 15:32 - Their offer to believe in Christ if He would descend from the cross was empty mockery. True evidence alone does not turn a soul toward God. A sinful heart must be convicted of the need of God's salvation).

We must be careful to believe and trust in the Jesus presented in the Scriptures, in the Son of God who sacrificed His life for our sins (Galatians 1:3-4, Philippians 2:5-8).

John 10:37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38 but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.”

The heart of the issue is belief. John never deviates from this single condition for being born again. The word translated believe is used 99 times in the book of John.

God's Purpose: Peace and Life

The bible says...

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Problem: Our Separation

God created us in His own image. He did not make us as robots to automatically love and obey Him. God gave us a will and freedom of choice.

We chose to disobey God and go our own willful way. We still make this choice today. This results in separation from God.

The bible says...

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

People have tried many ways to bridge this gap between themselves and God.

The bible says...

Proverbs 4:12 there is a way that seems right to a man, But ??its end is the way of death.

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.

No bridge reaches God... except one.

God's Bridge: The Cross

Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the grave. He paid the penalty for our sin and bridged the gap between God and man.

The bible says...

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Timothy 2:5 for there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.

God has provided the only way. Each person must make a choice.

Our Response: Receive Christ

We must trust Jesus Christ as the Lord of our life and receive Him by personal invitation.

The bible says...

Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

Ephesians 2:8? For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Where are you?

Will you receive Jesus Christ right now?

Here is how you can receive Christ:

•Admit your need (I am a sinner)
•Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the dead to take away your sin
•Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and be willing to turn from your sins (repent)
•Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and be Lord and Saviour of your life

Prayer

Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God and that You died for me. I ask that You would come into my heart and dwell with me. Forgive my sins. I receive You and ask you to be Lord and Saviour of my life. Amen

When we pray that prayer sincerely we are born again. Born of the Spirit and He sends the Holy Spirit to abide in us. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Comforter, Teacher. He leads us into all truth and testifies of Jesus.

Almost persuaded to become a Christian

Acts 26:27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you do believe.” 28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.”

How many today hear the gospel message and are almost persuaded to accept Christ but don't because they don't want to give up their lifestyle or they are concerned what their friends and family will think.

How many who end up in hell will regret, remembering how they almost became a Christian and if they had of they would be in a better place.

Don't let this be you. If you have heard the truth and are almost persuaded, do not put it off any longer, accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour and receive eternal life.

The day of the Lord is at hand.

1 Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.

No I don't believe the three represent Father Son and Spirit. Some people do though.
It is clear the two men who went down to Sodom were angels.

i need someone to talk to who understands. my husband and i have been married for almost 2 years now. we have a beautiful baby girl as well. he went to church with his parents when he was younger but now will only go to keep me happy, those were his words. i want him to want to go. because he has attatchments and he needs to be delivered, but he wont. i dont no what to do. he has hurt me so many times, (not physically), and i thought that icould change the way he used to be with women, alcohol, lust and porn and things like that. i no he has the potential to be such an amazing man of god, but at the moment he doesnt treat me like he should. i no he loves me but he doesnt no how to tell the truth. i have to think about my daughters best interest, because i want her to grow up a strong christian, and she wont if my husband doesnt do anything about his attatchments. god doesnt want us to worry, or be upset, and i dont want to be. he has done so many things to me i cant help but wonder what he is up to. is there anyone out there who understands and can offer some advice? maybe a man who was like my husband and has been delivered, or a women who has gone through something similar? at the moment i was just gonna give it some more time, i try to talk to him about the things i learn at church but he doesnt want to listen. i have thought to leave him, but i dont want to break a promise to god, and i want my husband to be the best possible man he can be, and feel he will only be if i help him, if he ever wants it...i would really appreciate anyone's comments, thankyou for taking the time to read this.
god bless

Hi,

Welcome!

First I have to say your username is great- that is my favourite Bible verse and I have it hanging up in my kitchen! And yeah my dog doesn't talk much either, he just says "feed me" like your cat and hasn't got a tail to complain about (some idiot cut it off before i got him) so I think already your cat can say more than my dog. So here's a "welcome" from my dog... WOOF LICK LICK! ROFWOL (Rolling On Floor Woofing Out Loud)

Don't worry not everyone here is as wierd as me. Poor them. Enjoy your stay!

Hi,
I am new to social networks etc and really do not know how it all works but I do know that I would like to talk to other Christians as my cat is not much of a conversationalist as all she says is "feed me" and "get off my tail" so if you can improve on that I would like to hear from you.:)

Oh and "blue bottles"? here they are small jelly fish lol.

Yes I have trouble understanding emotions because I get flooded with them then have to step back and look at them from a distance using all sorts of methods in my own way. This often leads people to think I don't care because in order to concentrate I stop talking. But really I am just processing it all.

Just bought five garden solar lights in the shape of blue glass bottles <g>

Gen 18:1-2 KJV
(1) And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
(2) And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

Who were these 3 men?It is my understanding one was God(Jesus) and 2 were angels.
