 Hi I am from Victoria, Australia. I live with two flatmates and a dog. I've been a Christian for about 10 years and I thank God for everything good in my life. He really is Jehovah Jirah, my provider. The Lord always works everything out.
I have Asperger's Syndrome (I'm an 'Aspie'). This means I have a lot of giftedness but also some difficulties communicating- I can take things too literally, get confused when more than one person is chatting and I can be a bit tactless- I'm not being a troll, I'm just learning.
(So if I only open my mouth to change feet- that's part of my job description! lol). Please be patient with me.
I like my wonderful church, gardening, playing musical instruments, dancing and homemaking. I love my neighbours and my community. And of course Jesus.

hi HIs daughter
My daughter has aspergers.........and apparently me too...but to a lesser degree. We live in Queensland...Australia....with my husband....and two dogs.
Still learning about being an "aspie" and trying to understand my 15 yr old daughter better.....how i can help her better......would love your input....it would be appreciated. Im 43yrs old......and my daughter was finally officially diagnosed aspergers......two years ago........

Hi,
Courage - one thing I would add is the sensory processing issues can be pretty huge, making communication difficult. Depending on what a person finds hard to cope with -visual stimuli, auditory, tactile (touch), taste, proprioception/vestibular (awareness of body in space and movement)- people on the Spectrum can be extremely sensitive in particular areas, setting off anxiety attacks, misunderstandings and behaviours of concern. There are lots of groups on facebook to join where there are lots of great discussions about this. I find routine, object symbols and other visual cues help me give structure to my day and am happy to share with you via messages (may get too lengthy for this 'introductions' section!!) lol. If I was 15 again I would do more dancing (I am movement oriented) and socialise in groups of 2 or 3 with an adult mentor to role model appropriate behaviour. I would study part time instead of full time, do more art and music and have a 'timeout' area where nobody can bug me whe I need space. Feel free to message me.... |
