In the book of Ezekiel God calls them a stubborn people. He is bringing judgment because of their idolatry.
1 Samuel 15:23 says stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
The ultimate form of idolatry is to declare oneself as god - I know what God says but I know a better way. I have a higher word than the word of God. I know God's way but I believe my way is better.
Stubbornness means - fixed in purpose or condition. Very resistant to change, resists advice, resists authority.
I came across a verse yesterday in Revelation 22:15 which says idolaters will not enter the Kingdom of God.
Stubbornness hinders our walk with the Lord, we will only go so far. We must do it God's way, while we resist Him, we cannot move forward in Him. We need to wait on Him and not try to make things happen that we think are necessary. This is what Saul did, he was given instruction from the Lord through Samuel and Saul decided his way was best. He set his idea above the word of God, that is stubbornness.
Stubbornness affects our worship. We need to be worshiping in Spirit and in truth out of a pure heart. When we hold onto stubbornness our worship is not a sweet smelling aroma, its a stench to God.
Yes God is patient with us but once He shows us something in our lives that is not right before Him we need to repent. Turn away from it.
Humbly Lord we come before and we say search us, show us if there be any stubbornness in us. Help us to be submissive to You Lord, Your word is higher than ours Lord. Your word tells us that we don’t know the wickedness in our own hearts, cleanse us from any stubbornness Lord, deliver us for Your glory that we would be a people willing to submit to Your word, not putting our word above Yours. May we be a people who worship from a pure heart, submissive to You, make us a sweet smelling aroma Lord. It's all for You and all about You. In Jesus name, Amen |
